Practicarea saunei in timpul sarcinii este benefica atat pentru mama cat si pentru copil. Sarcina nu este o boala, deci nu exista motive de a ocoli sauna. Dimpotriva: corpul, lucrand pentru doua persoane, are nevoie de odihna pe care o poate oferi.
Practicarea saunei in mod sistematic usureaza nasterea, determinand relaxarea muschilor bazinului. Muschii care vor fi solicitati la nastere devin moi si relaxati. Nasterea va deveni mai usoara atat pentru mama cat si pentru copil: se scurteaza travaliul, durerile devin mai suportabile. Pe langa conditiile igienice, acesta a fost motivul pentru care femeile nordice nasteau in sauna; bineinteles, nu la 100° C!

Pe parcursul sarcinii, continutul de lichid din sange si tesuturi creste cu aproximativ opt litri. Numai volumul sangelui devine mai mare cu 40%! In vasele sangvine curg acum mai mult de opt litri de sange, in loc de sase. Din aceasta cauza in tesuturi se formeaza depozite de apa, numite edeme. Transpirand in sauna, edemul se degradeaza. Pe langa aceasta, sunt eliminate substantele reziduale din corp, fapt benefic atat pentru mama cat si pentru metabolismul copilului.
Scade riscul trombozei
Femeile predispuse la slabirea tesutului conjunctiv sau la formarea varicelor trebuie sa frecventeze sauna inca din prima luna de sarcina. Antrenarea vaselor sangvine scade predispozitia pentru formarea varicelor si reduce riscul de tromboza.

Recomandari in asteptarea unui copil
● in cazul in care va asteptati la o nastere prematura sau gemelara, sauna va fi evitata (daca exista dubii se va consulta medicul)
● in ultimele doua luni renuntati la bazinul pentru cufundare, eliminati-l complet daca apare predispozitia la hipertensiune arteriala in timpul sarcinii
● in urma unei pierderi masive de sange sau in cazul anemiei este permisa reluarea saunei, insa numai cu acordul medicului sau moasei
● inaintea parasirii saunei, va ridicati incet si ramaneti pe banca inferioara pentru cateva minute
● in timpul racoririi nu stati prea mult in picioare, pentru ca sangele coboara in picioare si este posibila intunecarea vederii
